Breakthrough of Greater Philadelphia Intern

Interest:
Education & Children

From the middle of June until the middle of August, interns (teachers) work 5 days a week and are responsible for teaching and mentoring the middle school students in the program. Interns teach up to two academic classes (Math, English, Social Studies, Physics, Biology, or Foreign Language) and one elective. All teachers are active faculty members - leading and participating in daily faculty meetings, weekly department meetings to plan academic programming, and weekly committee meetings to plan fun extracurricular programming for students. Three teachers are partnered together to teach and mentor students in a SLC (small learning community) consisting of approximately 10-12 students. Breakthrough is a high expectations, high support environment. Interns receive guidance from mentor teachers throughout the summer. This includes support with lesson planning, assistance with curriculum development, and the growth of other essential skills to make the young teachers effective in the classroom. Homestays are available for out-of-town teachers. Compensation: Stipend
