Prospective Scholars : Benefits

Benefits

The Hunter R. Rawlings III Cornell Presidential Research Scholars program provides exciting opportunities to a select number of students.

Freshman Colloquium
Incoming freshmen participate in the Rawlings CPRS Colloquium, which includes meetings with fellow students, university and college unit coordinators and faculty representatives. This first semester activity creates a sense of cohesion and belonging, introduces the students to many Cornell resources, and helps them find a faculty mentor.

Peer Advisory Network
Rawlings CPRS’s Peer Advisory Network pairs the program’s newest students with upperclass scholars who have come to know Cornell—its challenges and its resources.

Research in Progress Forum
Each semester, Rawlings CPRS upperclassmen volunteer to present their research to fellow scholars at an informal forum. It’s a great way to learn about other projects and opportunities at Cornell.

Summer Research Internships
Students can develop summer internships to explore their research interests. Expenses for most internships are paid through RSAs. While scholars can apply for funding for up to three summers of research, each scholar is expected to participate in at least one summer research experience.

Summer Expected Savings Replacements (ESR)
Expenses incurred during the summer may make it difficult to meet Cornell’s savings expectation from summer earnings. ESRs provide a replacement if students have worked in a research-related position at least 35 hours a week for eight weeks during the summer.

Senior Poster Session
Seniors showcase their research in this capstone event. http://www.news.cornell.edu/stories/April05/CPRS.poster.ak.html

CC LEAD
The Cornell Commitment Leadership, Emergence, Assessment and Development program is designed to help students develop skills and learn effective techniques that will facilitate their assumption of leadership positions at Cornell and beyond. The CC LEAD program is available to second-semester freshmen and sophomores who aspire to leadership positions and exhibit basic leadership qualities that would be enhanced by the program.

Student Advisory Board (SAB)
Rawlings CPRS students can annually apply to be members of the SAB, the RCPRS executive board which advises staff on areas of interest for students; board members also serve as ambassadors of the program.

Rawlings CPRS OnLine
The program produces a semesterly electronic newsletter and maintains a moderated listserv, CPRS-L, to keep students up-to-date on news and events.
